RECYouth: REEL Education for Youth

RECYouth is a multimedia extracurricular program for teens. RECYouth teaches teens video, audio, photography, and graphic design while encouraging creative expression. Participants learn to use digital tools and professional software to create and edit their footage, recordings and photos. . By the end of the course, every student will have independently or collaboratively completed a final project. Each session is followed by a community screening or exhibit for teens to share their completed films, songs, and digital designs with friends and family.

Eligibility

RECYouth is free and open to all New York City teens who meet the following criteria:

Age 14-17 at start of program
Recreation Center member (membership is free to youth 17 and under)
Committed to length of program
Interested in multimedia, arts, or digital technology
Able to work independently and in a group

Time and Location

RECYouth Session 1: September – January
RECYouth Session 2: February – June
RECYouth Summer Institute: July – August (six weeks)

Cost

RECYouth is free! Computer Resource Centers provide the resources and guidance. Teens contribute their creative energy, enthusiasm, and commitment.

Tribeca Film Fellows® - Application

Each year, Tribeca Film Institute® (TFI) invites emerging filmmakers, ages 16–18, to participate in a year-round fellowship program that fosters their creative, professional, and academic skills. Through this fellowship, students gain a deeper knowledge of the power of film to influence social change through intensive workshops, direct contact with seasoned filmmakers and the local and global leaders framing the issues.
Fellows work closely with a professional film mentor who helps them develop their film proposals and pitch their projects in competition for a college scholarship in the amount of $2,500. In addition, Fellows are eligible for continued production support for their films through grants and access to filmmaking equipment and organizational resources. Throughout the year Fellows receive individual academic support in preparation for statewide and nationwide exams, including Regents and the SAT, as well as support in the college application process.
This spring, TFI will select twenty of the most promising student filmmakers to participate in the Tribeca Film Fellows® Program.

Eligibility

Must be 16–18 years old
Have been actively involved with video production for at least 12 months
Have a career aspiration in some area of media and/or video/film
Complete online application and submit work sample (if using the DVD option) and recommendation form by postmark deadline, February 8th, 2013

In addition to the online application, all entries must include the following:

Work Sample - If you are unable to provide a link to your work sample online, please submit a DVD copy of the work. Be sure to label with title, running time, name of filmmaker and/or school organization. Entry materials will not be returned. You may also submit a portion of a script that you have written as your work sample.
