Internship at the Environmental Study Center (ESC)

Open to students entering Grades 10, 11, and 12
Tuesday, July 5 to Thursday, August 19, 2016 from 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM; multiple sessions available
The ESC is looking for responsible, motivated, and energetic high school students to participate in an exciting internship opportunity. We offer a variety of internships, including teacher assistants, aquaponic system management, gardening, and animal care. At the conclusion of the internship, students will receive a certificate verifying the number of hours worked and the contributions made to the ESC. Students will complete a culminating project at the end of the internship. Interns will receive a MetroCard for their travel to and from ESC.

Internship at the Environmental Study Center

For Students Entering Grades 10, 11, and 12

The Environmental Study Center (ESC) is looking for responsible, motivated, and energetic high school students who are entering grades 10, 11, and 12 to participate in an exciting internship opportunity. We offer a variety of internships including teacher assistants, aquaponic system management, gardening, or animal care. At the conclusion of the internship, students will receive a certificate verifying the number of hours worked and the contributions made to the Environmental Study Center.  Students will complete a culminating project at the end of the internship.  Interns will receive a MetroCard for their travel to and from ESC.


Several internship opportunities are available and students may apply to one or more of the options listed below:
Aquaponic System Management

Gardener

How to Apply (please note that there are two parts to the application process):
Part 1: Click the Apply Now button below to complete Part 1 of the application online.
Part 2: Download and print the paper consent form application packet from the last page of this online application to complete Part 2 of the application.

a. First, have your parent/guardian complete the Media Release and Parent Consent Forms.

b. Then, give your teacher the Teacher Letter of Support form with an addressed, stamped envelope.  Teachers will mail the Teacher Letter of Support directly to ESC.

c.  Finally, submit the entire paper consent form application packet by 5:00 PM on Thursday, April 21, 2016 by email to ESC@schools.nyc.gov or mail to:

* Applications that do not include both Part 1 and Part 2 will not be considered.

Upon reviewing completed applications, prospective interns will be invited for an interview.  Interviews will take place between Tuesday, April 26 and Thursday, May 5, 2016.  Final decisions will be made by May 10, 2016.  All interns who are accepted must attend a training session on June 29, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The online intern application is due by 5:00 PM, Tuesday, April 19, 2016.  The entire paper consent form application packet is due by 5:00 PM, Thursday, April 21, 2016.  All completed applications will be reviewed and judged by a panel of educators. Upon reviewing completed applications, prospective interns will be invited for an interview.  Interviews will take place between Tuesday, April 26 and Thursday, May 5, 2016.  Notification of acceptance will be sent during the week of May 16, 2016 via email from ESC@schools.nyc.gov.  Please check your spam/junk mail folders.  All interns who are accepted must attend a training session on June 29, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
