Emerging Writers Summer Institute
Students earn three credits in a college-level course: Introduction to Creative Writing
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Emerging Writers Summer Institute provides a unique opportunity for high school juniors in the New York City metropolitan area to develop their skills in academic writing, creative writing and critical analysis of literature.
To students: in addition to providing focused classroom instruction designed to strengthen interpretive and critical aptitudes as well as academic and creative writing skills, the Emerging Writers Institute offers New York City as a unique learning laboratory. In this three-week intensive program, you will consider how authors have imagined and represented New York City in various genres, including poetry, drama, fiction, and film. Beyond your work in the classroom, you will have opportunities to supplement your work with learning activities in New York City such as visits to museum exhibitions, film screenings, and literary events. By the end of the program, you will have gained college-preparatory experience in academic and creative writing while analyzing the works of some of New York City’s literary greats. Upon successful completion of the Emerging Writers Institute, you will earn three college credits in Introduction to Creative Writing.
