Arturo A. Schomburg Satellite Academy Bronx (AASSAB) is accpting applications and interviewing students for the Fall 2014 semester.  Students must have completed at least one year of high school to apply.  If you have a student who is looking for a different academic environment, and could benefit from more individual attention, project-based learning and portfolio-based assessments, please have them fill out the attached application and fax it to 718-589-3710, attention Intake. Schomburg Satellite Academy is a small transfer school, located at 1010 Reverend James Polite Ave., a block from E. 164th and Prospect Avenue. The school community is warm and accepting. Students focus deeply on a few subjects at a time. Smaller classes and a block schedule support academic rigor and successful completion of classes.

The school is a member of the NYS Performance Consortium and students are exempt from all Regents Exams except the ELA. Regents. Degrees are awarded based on portfolios and performance-based assessments. Class offerings are varied and challenging, with many following an inquiry and discussion format. View a short video about an AASSAB science course. Our teachers are dedicated and school discipline is based on restorative justice practices, and include mediation and counseling.

Suggested credit guidelines for applicants are:
Age 16: 8-10 credits
Age 17: 10-15 credits
Age 18: 16-23 credits

Age 19: 24 or more credits and 2 regents exams

STUDENT APPLICATION PROCESS

1.    Call the school at (718) 518.3050 and make an appointment to take the entrance tests.  Testing takes place on Monday and Tuesday afternoons; the test covers math, reading and writing. 

2.    Bring copies (not originals) of required documents. These are:       

FROM THE SCHOOL	FROM THE PARENT/GUARDIAN
●     Current transcript ●     RISA report ●     Immunization record ●     IEP (if applicable)	●     Birth Certificate (copy) ●     Proof of Address

3.    Attend a mandatory Intake Orientation/Interview with a parent of guardian.
  

4.    Shadow classes for 3-days. 

5.    Enroll in Arturo A. Schomburg Satellite Academy.
