Volunteer with the Stewardship Team to help protect the young forest in Inwood Hill Park! Volunteers will be trained in tree care best practices as well as invasive vegetation identification and removal techniques for vines, multi-flora rose, and wineberry. Come dressed in boots, long pants, and clothing that can get dirty.

NYRR Open Run: Inwood Hill Park

This event repeats every week on Saturday between 7/2/2016 and 3/25/2017.

Open Run is a community-based, volunteer-led running initiative bringing free weekly runs and walks to local neighborhood parks, across all five boroughs of NYC. All runs are directed by volunteers and are free to all participants. The finish line is open until the last person is done. The courses vary based on the park, but the courses are between 2.5 and 3 miles long.

Participants are encouraged to arrive 15 minutes before the start of the run and to leave their valuables at home – bag check is not provided. No need to do anything before the run, just show up. Open to all ages, experience levels, walkers, strollers, dogs: All are welcome!

This program is in coordination with NYC Parks' Community Parks Initiative.

The Color of Comics exhibition is curated by Ray Felix, showcasing private art collections from artist, Ray Felix, and writer, Alex Simmons, along with several talented African-American artists in the comic book industry. Artists include: Paris Cullins, Trevor Vonnie Eden, N.Steven Harris,Carl Kent, Corey Fields, Jerry Craft, Christopher Duckett, Khary Randolph, Jamal Ingle, Alitha E. Martinez, Sha-Nee Williams, and many more.

WINTER 2017 Visit Brown University

The Experience Brown program aims to provide prospective students with the opportunity to get a sense of what it is like to be a student at Brown University by allowing them structured access to classes and one-on-one, non-evaluative contact with a current student. All hosts are members of the Bruin Club and are volunteers. 

The program matches prospective students with current students who share their academic or extracurricular interests and allows prospective students to attend a class and eat lunch in a dining hall with their host.

The Experience Brown program does not include a campus tour or information session, but is in close communication with the coordinators for both of these programs so as to ensure ample opportunity to attend all of the programming the Bruin Club offers daily.

The Experience Brown schedule is organized around the university's class framework. Listed below are typical schedules for each of the time slots offered on each day of the week. Experience Brown participants should arrive at the Stephen Roberts '62 Campus Center to check in at their designated pick-up time. The Experience Brown program is available mid-February through March 31 and mid-September through early December.

Registration & Cancellation
Registration is required for the Experience Brown program. Spots are extremely limited, so you are encouraged to sign up early. Only students who have registered in advance of their visit may participate in Experience Brown. Students visiting with siblings or friends must each register separately for Experience Brown if they wish to also participate in the program. Please note, registration closes 3 days prior to each event. The Experience Brown program is available mid-February through March 31 and mid-September through early December.

WINTER 2017 extended the deadline for New Yorkers to apply for seats on Manhattan's 12 Community Boards by a week. Applications will now be due Friday, Feb. 10, instead of today, Feb. 3. We encourage all eligible New Yorkers living, working, or studying in the borough of Manhattan to take advantage of the extra time and submit an application.

Community Board application deadline extended to Friday, Feb. 10 Today the Office of Manhattan Borough President Gale A. Brewer extended the deadline for New Yorkers to apply for seats on Manhattan's 12 Community Boards by a week. Applications will now be due Friday, Feb. 10, instead of today, Feb. 3. We encourage all eligible New Yorkers living, working, or studying in the borough of Manhattan to take advantage of the extra time and submit an application. The presidential election shook a lot of New Yorkers, but it's also awakened an urgent interest in civic involvement. Mirroring Mead: Filming Culture in Anthropology

How do you capture a culture on film? Start by creating your own visual short! Explore films

screened at past Margaret Mead Film Festivals and learn about the methodology of

ethnographic film while creating a short “mini-doc” using the American Museum of Natural

History as your field site.

In addition to her work as a curator and researcher at the American Museum of Natural History,

Margaret Mead was a pioneer in the use of film and photography as a medium for cross-cultural

understanding and communication. Mead’s legacy in visual anthropology has continued with the

Margaret Mead Film Festival, started in 1977and still running strong today. Learn how

anthropologists continue a tradition that shapes how we see our world, and be a part of the

visual conversation!
