Today’s Teens, Tomorrow’s Techies (T4)

The Today’s Teens, Tomorrow’s Techies (T4) is a technology volunteer program designed to provide Brooklyn youth, ages 14 to 18, with access to FREE enhanced technology training and volunteer opportunities at Brooklyn Public Library (BPL). The program provides an introduction to future careers in technology and public librarianship and, provides a great opportunity for teens to use free time during the summer in a structured learning environment that promotes personal growth and development of leadership skills.

Teen Reviewers and Critics (TRaC) Program

This summer, ArtsConnection is offering another edition of their special 4-week intensive Summer TRaC: MAP FREE CITY.
Recognized in 2011 & 2012 as a National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award Finalist, the Teen Reviewers and Critics (TRaC) Program is a FREE out-of-school opportunity for teens to explore the arts in NYC. Participants spend each term attending cutting-edge theater, dance and music performances; visiting artist studios, galleries, and museums; mastering NYC’s subway system; learning the art of discussion and critical writing; AND so much more!
This summer, we’re proud to present a Summer TRaC that focuses on free art in NYC during the warmer months. This year’s Summer TRaC is a special 4-week intensive where a group of 15 students will explore the arts world of NYC within the scope of free arts and cultural events in different neighborhoods all over the 5 boroughs. There will also be the added bonus of meeting artists and performers from all over the 5 boroughs! Participants will attend events and performances in the visual and performing arts; meet professional artists, performers, and writers; navigate NYC; critically respond to art; and publish content on our online publication, the Journal of Arts and Reviews (The JAR) at teens.artsconnection.org. Pizza and Movie Night at ArtsConnection

Film in Action is an interactive film club for children (ages 5-9) to begin thinking critically about what they watch, but also to have fun and develop an appetite for something other than Disney fare.
How are children’s experiences different around the world? How are they the same? This summer, we’ll explore the favorite ways kids play and what they dream through films made by and for children from different parts of the world. In the afternoons, inspired campers will have the opportunity to shoot micro-films in the park and around the neighborhood.
Each day will include a snack and outdoor time at a local playground or field trip in the city. Campers should bring their own lunches and swimsuits for sprinklers. Learn more here.

The Junior Filmmakers Program gives students (ages 10 – 13) fun and engaging opportunities to learn about documentary films and work in teams to make a short documentary. Under the guidance of film professionals, students learn the fundamentals of documentary filmmaking including an approach that emphasizes direct observation and personal experience, working with HD cameras, Adobe Premiere Pro editing software, and an introduction to integrating Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator into their final films. The 5-day program culminates in a public premiere of the students’ films at The Maysles Cinema, and a personal meeting with Albert Maysles to discuss their artistic vision and a career in film. Each course meets three times a week, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, for six weeks, and the season culminates in a Teen Art Show of participants’ work at the MoMA.

The People Make the Park 2015: Teen Summer Program at The Bronx Museum of the Arts

Teen Summer Program explore the stories behind New York City’s public parks. Teens ages 14-19 interview Bronx residents, park staff, artists, and park users in order to document what make these public spaces special. Teens work with museum educators and create diverse range of projects, from audio podcasts, signs and publications that share their findings with a wider public.

RECyouth Summer Institute with NYC Parks and Recreation

Runs in all five boroughs at eight different Computer Resource Centers
  • Locations:  St. Mary’s Rec (Bronx), McCarren Rec (Williamsburg), St. John’s Rec  (Brooklyn), Sunset Park Rec (Brooklyn), Brownsville Rec (Brooklyn), Al  Oerter Rec (Queens), Hamilton Fish Rec (Manhattan), Hansborough Rec  (Manhattan), Chelsea (Manhattan), Jackie Robinson Rec (Manhattan).
  • Summer programs run for 15 to 20 hours per week, from July 6th to August 14th.

Each summer over 100 teens work with RECyouth media production experts and college interns over a seven week period to develop their storytelling, documentary, graphic design, audio production and journalism skills. Program culmination includes a screening and gallery exhibition of youth graphic design, documentary shorts, narrative shorts, PSAs, and press-corp event pieces. Students visit museums, relevant exhibitions, and gain solid digital media arts production skills, qualifying them for portfolio development workshops during the subsequent fall.

The 10 Under 20 Award is an initiative of Consumer Electronics (CE) Week in partnership with the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC). The Award is intended to provide recognition to 10 individuals (between the ages of 13 and 19) for developing products that demonstrate exceptional creativity, user design, scalability, civic mindedness and exemplify an application of STEAM (science, technology, engineering arts, and math) and related fields. Award winners may receive in-kind prizes, media promotion and other benefits through the Award.   • Intended for Rising ninth through twelfth graders with or without programming experience.
