No Longer Empty Y.Dot 15' Application Due 2/6/2015 Y.Dot is a 16 week program for teens 14-17 that combines personal and professional growth and development.

nolongerempty.org

Art organization, No Longer Empty had a successful 2014. In the summer we held our 16th exhibition, If You Build It in a recently constructed  building in Harlem that now provides affordable housing, education services and will be the The Children's Museum of Art & Storytelling.

As January comes to a close, we have big plans for 2015 as we continue our mission to transform & revitalize empty spaces with contemporary art exhibitions. For our 17th project we will be transforming the Old Bronx Borough Courthouse in the Morrisania neighborhood of the Bronx. This New York Historical landmark will be open to the public for the first time since 1971 and will host a contemporary art exhibition accompanied by educational and cultural programs.
As part of our programming, No Longer Empty is hosting a number of opportunities for youths and families. Currently, we are accepting applications for theY.Dot internship program.

Y.Dot is a 16 week program for teens 14-17 that combines personal and professional growth and development. Beginning in March, participants meet weekly for workshops ranging on various topics including: public speaking, writing, media literacy plus cultural and art excursions. The cumulation of the workshops is the creation and presentation of a tour in the NLE exhibition. For the remaining 8 weeks, students gain professional experience at the exhibition site while welcoming and engaging visitors with art. A stipend is rewarded upon program completion.

The application is available online at http://goo.gl/forms/NeBpsGsKRU and is accessible by clicking the link in the attached flyer. Attached, you'll also find a copy of the application itself. Deadline is February 6, 2015 at midnight.
Please share with your youths and feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Best,
Ayana

Exhibition: The Migration

 Add to Calendar
Friday, February 6, 2015
9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
This event repeats every weekday between 1/15/2015 and 2/24/2015.
NYC Parks’ Ebony Society invites you to celebrate Black History Month with the Arsenal Gallery exhibition The Migration.
In the midst of tremendous upheaval—two world wars and the Great Depression—a vast movement of people, some 6 million African American descendants of the Antebellum South, fled the racial segregation and discrimination of Jim Crow laws for northern and western U.S. cities. The “Great Migration,” as it is commonly termed, caused a seismic societal demographic shift and left an indelible mark on the urbanization of America. Twenty-two artists share their interpretations of this historical epoch and its impact.

Wave Hill Horticultural Lecture #1: Marco Polo Stufano - Wave Hill at 50

Wave Hill Horticultural Lecture #1:

Marco Polo Stufano -

Wave Hill at 50

6:00 p.m.
–8:00 p.m.
Wednesday, January 21, 2015

This ongoing series is hosted by Wave Hill’s Friends of Horticulture Committee and is devoted to landscape design and the meaning of our interactions with plants and the natural world.
When founding Director of Horticulture Marco Polo Stufano arrived at Wave Hill in 1967, not long after the property was donated to the City of New York, he found the property in a “sorry state”—with old greenhouses in ruins and paths eroded—and sorely in need of rethinking. The spectacular site and its potential proved so seductive that he devoted 34 years to it.
This illustrated talk, the first of Wave Hill’s three 2015 Horticultural Lectures, offers a rare opportunity to hear him trace the evolution of the garden. Stufano retired from Wave Hill in 2001, though his presence is still deeply felt here and in other green spaces across New York City and beyond. The second in this series takes place February 18.
