New York University Tisch School of the Arts Future Artists Programs
Saturday, February 2 - Saturday, May 11, 2019

Future Artists Open House: Saturday, October 20, 2018
Program Application Deadline: Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at 5:00 p.m.

New York University Tisch School of the Arts offers a free spring program to high school
freshman, sophomores and juniors. The Future Artists Programs at NYU Tisch require a
14-week commitment on Saturdays and is a commuter program. Qualifying students must
attend a high school in one of the five boroughs of New York City, or (but not limited to)
Westchester County, Long Island, New Jersey, parts of Philadelphia and Connecticut.

Students apply to one of the following Future Artists Programs:
Future Dancers and Dancemakers
This is an intensive program focusing on technical training, choreography, and performance.
Students will also study dance composition, improvisation and repertory that culminates in
a final concert of student work.
Future Dramatic Writers
Students who want to write for theatre, film and television are immersed in a highly focused
and professional writing program. Students will develop scripts in each medium in the writing
workshop sessions, and present their playwriting work in the department's
Rita and Burton Goldberg Theatre.
Future Filmmakers
All aspects of filmmaking are taught in this workshop. Students will learn how to produce,
direct and edit several short individual and collaborative films. An emphasis is placed on
personal storytelling and learning how to articulate oneself creatively through an understanding
of the technical elements of making a movie.
Future Film Scholars
This program focuses on the history, criticism, theory and cultural significance of moving images.
Students who are passionate about seeing, learning and writing about film, television, and
moving image cultures will not make their own films, but they will be introduced to the
varieties of film practices (e.g., fiction, documentary, animation, experimental/ avant-garde,
video art and new forms of digital media).

Future Game Designers
The workshop will introduce students to the methods, tools and principles used in developing digital games. Students will work alone and in groups to create a series of digital prototypes or ‘sketches’, culminating in a final polished game building on the lessons learned in the earlier sketches. This workshop takes place at the NYU Game Center's facilities in Downtown Brooklyn.
Future Imagemakers
This workshop is for students who are drawn to telling stories by capturing people, events,
and other visual aspects of life through the lens. Students will photograph their families, friends
and communities to create photographic essays exploring their day-to-day lives, dreams,
concerns and challenges.
Future Music Moguls
Students learn all aspects of the contemporary music business. They not only learn about the
creative process behind the writing and recording of hit songs, but they're also exposed to the
exciting behind-the-scenes business decisions that help music wind up in the hands of
audiences around the world.
Future Theatre Artists
This workshop is dedicated to developing the mind, body, voice and spirit of the artist in order to
experience the potential influence of the live performer. The skills acquired during the exploration
and developing of each artist’s unique voice will be applied to many forms of creative theatrical expression.
