FALL 2017 Inwood Hill Park events November 2017
Dear Friends and lovers of Inwood Hill Park,
It has been a beautiful autumn in the park! We have stewardship opportunities, art, natural history programs and unique fitness programs to help you engage with and celebrate the 190-acre Inwood Hill Park and its sister Isham Park.
Park Improvements:
As part of our efforts to increase public access to Inwood’s many hiking trails, Northern Manhattan Parks, the Urban Park Rangers and our Natural Resources Division have been working on trail upgrades, trail marking, and a trail map. We’ve also begun the installation of wayfinding trail maps in the park, with more going in early next week!
A special thanks to the Highschool for Environmental Studies which came and worked alongside NYC Parks on removing invasive plants/vines from the park’s forest earlier this week. Thank for helping us improve the health of the forest!
Join us at these upcoming Inwood Hill & Isham Park Programs:

Dates: October 22, 2017 through February 2018
Location: Northern end of Inwood Hill Park, enter at Indian Road & 218th Street
Info: www.nomaanyc.org
Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance’s (NoMAA) annual public art projects series in Upper Manhattan collaborated with Leanne Stella, founder of Art In FLUX, and NYC Parks to identify a curatorial theme and three uptown artists for an exhibit. Through an open call, Artists were invited to challenge how a park bench encourages or discourages conversation and interaction; to re-invent the bench to be more inclusive in respect to age, size, and abilities; explore how a bench affects access or cross-generational exchanges; or investigate the very definition(s) of the bench and how that plays a role in our perception and positioning of the bench within various cultures. The artists were given the freedom to present an abstract idea, a conceptual project or a functional re-invention of the ubiquitous object. Three NYC-based artists Suprina, Sam Holleran and Hugh Hayden were selected. Each artist had a very different take on the concept but share a playfulness in their responses.

FALL 2017 Open Enrollment Health Care
Open Healthcare Enrollment Event at Harlem HospitalWednesday, November 112:30pm – Arrival for Rally
1:00pm – Program begins
1:45pm – Launch of Community Flyering OutreachHarlem Hospital – Atrium, 506 Lenox Avenue
The Administration in Washington took down the ACA ads and cut funding for outreach, so now it’s on all of us to make sure New Yorkers know it’s time to enroll or renew their coverage. We are publicizing the open enrollment period via city-wide events, social media and flyering across communities. We are also working with Mayors across the country to amplify enrollment around the deadline through tweets, Facebook and op-eds.The GetCoveredNYC initiative is focused on enrolling uninsured New Yorkers in health coverage throughout the year, as well as informing New Yorkers of the benefits of having health insurance and seeking regular, preventive care. GetCoveredNYC specialists are proactively engaging uninsured New Yorkers across the city – through door-knocking, phone calls, attending community events, and partnering with a number of local elected officials and community groups. Specialists case-manage New Yorkers through every step of the enrollment process – ensuring they come prepared to their appointments, rescheduling appointments when needed, and following up afterwards to offer and to care.
New Yorkers who want to sign-up for health insurance can call 311 or text CoveredNYC to 877 877 to find free in-person enrollment assistance near them or online.?
